Victorian Rose B&B

Over Thanksgiving weekend Kyle and I stayed at the Victorian Rose Bed and Breakfast in Ventura, Calif. Our one night stay was gifted to me for graduation by Kyle’s grandmother. I graduated back in May and we finally found the time to use this gift. At first glance the place looks haunted and eerie–especially since a thick coastal fog surrounded the area when we arrived! I don’t think it really is haunted, we spent the night undisturbed and even explored the building at night. Nothing creepy happened but it was fun to imagine and creep myself out! The Victorian Rose…

Monique Is Exploring: Ventura Harbor Night Life

A few weeks ago my fiance planned a wonderful night out for my birthday. It included dinner at The Greek at the Harbor in Ventura followed by a comedy show at The Ventura Harbor Comedy Club. We ended that night in downtown Ventura for a few birthday drinks. My sisters and friends came out to join the fun. It was our first time going to both the restaurant and comedy club. One of my favorite types of food is Greek and The Greek at the Harbor did not disappoint! We started with an Mezze Platter, an appetizer plate full of…

Monique Is Exploring: Savannah, GA

After visiting Kyle’s cousin in the college town of Athens we took off in the morning for an interesting mini road trip to Savannah and spent a day out there. This was my first time driving through the true “deep south”. We went through small towns with one stop light and small churches with graveyards in the front. We passed by a City Hall/Police Station/Fire House all-in-one combo thing–that must be the epitome of a small town! We went through miles and miles of protected forest. Finally we arrived Savannah, checked-in to our hotel and went exploring! Savannah is an…

Monique Is Exploring: Georgia Aquarium

On our second day of Atlanta sight-seeing we visited the Georgia Aquarium and Fernbank Natural History Museum. These are more attractions included with our Atlanta City Pass. The aquarium is full of a large variety of aquatic animals with plenty of photo opportunities. It’s a great place to escape from the oppressive heat and humidity common in the southern states. It is a perfect place for families, children and adults alike. My favorite part was the giant shark tank that included an archway where a conveyor belt leisurely moved guests through as sharks of all shapes and sizes swam over…

Bugs of the South

¬†Lightning Bugs-These delightful critters are amazing! We do not have these in California so they absolutely knocked my socks off! Everyone I talked to had fond childhood memories of capturing them¬† in jars and watching them glow all night. Kyle said when was a boy he would tear off their wings and decorate his arms with them…not so charming and cruel, right? Anyway, I fulfilled the Southern nostalgic memory and captured a Lightning Bug in a mason jar! It freaked me out at first but managed entrap it long enough to get a good look and admire it in all…
